About Us

A family-run business since 1974, Janbar Electric Ltd. was founded by husband and wife team Jane and Bart Smits. Their early focus was on providing quality electrical services primarily to farms, rural businesses and homeowners in the Quinte region. Working to develop a reputation for reliability, Jane and Bart grew the company modestly over the years, expanding to include industrial and commercial electrical clients.

By the early 90's, Jane and Bart's son, Mike Smits, began to follow in his family's footsteps, initially by attending an Electronics program at Radio College of Canada. Mike worked for a few years in the electronics field in Toronto before moving back to Trenton to apprentice as an electrician in the family business.

In 2004, Mike and his wife Tammy took over operation of Janbar Electric and began to focus on growing the business. Mike and Tammy began to increase Janbar's service offerings and eventually expanded their staff to 18 employees. The increased workforce has given Janbar the flexibility to offer their electricians and apprentices opportunities to specialize in key areas.

Janbars' focus on professionalism, strong customer service, after-sale communication and an emphasis on the personal touch has made them one of Quinte's most sought-after electrical services company.
